Rebuilding From the Inside Out

Rebuilding From the Inside Out

Misner & Smith, Sam Misner and Megan Smith, the dynamic duo hailing from Northern California, guide listeners on an introspective journey through their musical universe, with their sixth release, All is Song, which was a six year writing process. The piece of work masterfully blends folk-inspired vocals with contemporary, evocative melodies, highlighting their ability to transcend typical genre boundaries.

“Connection to the greater universe, and if there’s a phrase that I come up with, with my guitar in hand or not, that kind of connects to something that resonates with me, that’s when I’ll sit down and try to open myself to: ‘what’s a chord progression? What’s a melody that kind of fits with that?,’ Says Sam on the process of a song becoming.

All is Song is more than an album—it’s a testament to the power of music to uplift, inspire, and transform. Their ability to blend heartfelt storytelling with intricate melodies creates an experience that resonates deeply with listeners. As they continue to evolve artistically, it’s clear that their music will continue to touch hearts and minds around the world.

Exploring the Soulful Depths of All is Song

The conceptualizing of this album backs to 2017, but the writing process took its own course, with fits and starts over the years. The pandemic unexpectedly gave them the pause to deeply reflect on these songs, perform them, and refine them in ways we they hadn’t before. It was a transformative period for artistically for the duo which birthed the deep reflective stories within the songs heard on All is Song.

“It is like building a house without a blueprint. You start from the outside in. I feel like I get to know what a song is about as I’m writing it, as the structure becomes more clear. Maybe less like a house and more like a sculpture,” says Sam. “Like I know there’s a song in this big piece of marble. I just have to carve away the parts that aren’t the song in a way.”

The album title itself encapsulates their philosophy that music is everywhere, in every moment of life. They wanted to capture the beauty and complexity of both the mundane and the spectacular. Themes of introspection, connection, and transformation thread through the songs, reflecting our personal and collective experiences.

“We’re excited to share these songs with audiences through live performances and virtual platforms. We’re also already thinking about new music and exploring different creative avenues. The journey continues, and we’re grateful to have our music as a guide, says Sam & Megan. “Our website’s the best place to get involved. We’re online everywhere we can be—Facebook, TikTok, all the social medias. Everything about us is on MeisnerandSmith.com.”
