The Foundation Music School (FMS), a nonprofit in Fort Collins, CO, kicks off a crowdfunding campaign, “Keys to Connection: Music for Everyone,” running until November 15, 2024, with a goal of raising $45,000. The non-profit’s new Executive Director Stephen Brackett will expand its community-focused music programs in four key areas: expanding programs to meet demand, increasing scholarship access for low-income families, providing high-quality instruments, and expanding outreach to underserved communities.

Stephen Brackett, a notable member of the band Flobots, who also serves as Colorado’s Statewide Music Ambassador, brings a fresh perspective and passion for community engagement, emphasizing that music is essential to personal and social well-being.

With “Keys to Connection,” Brackett and the Foundation Music School aim to make music accessible to everyone, believing it to be a vital tool for connection, healing, and growth. Since its founding in 2006, FMS has served over 1,325 individuals each week, helping people discover their voices, build confidence, and find a sense of belonging through music.
Foundation Music School’s programs span a diverse range of services designed to reach individuals across all ages and backgrounds. including music classes that encourage brain and body development through movement, and music therapy programs aimed at enhancing physical, cognitive, and social well-being. The goal is a holistic approach to music education. They also offer private and group lessons, music camps, and partnerships with local schools, bringing music into the classroom to make it more accessible to students. Young people aren’t just learning an instrument—they’re reclaiming a sense of connection, control, and community, which has become especially vital post-quarantine.
FMS is turning to the community for support through the crowdfunding platform GiveButter, where donors can contribute to programs like Music for All, which provides scholarships to students in need, or Play it Forward, a program ensuring access to quality instruments.
