Microspirit – Frail Talk

Frail Talk took their evolving sound to Lazybones Audio in Silsbee, Texas, where they teamed up with producers Hannah Read (Lomelda) and Tommy Read to record their sophomore album, Microspirit. Over seven days of intense collaboration, they crafted a new collection of songs that deepened their commitment to emotion and substance. Microspirit is out today on all platforms.

“It’s almost like we’re unlocking this story that wants to be told, and we start to collect songs one by one or maybe at that point start to write songs more intentionally as a part of the story that’s peeking its head out. That’s how Microspirit came to be—one song at a time, realizing that we were writing a larger story,” says Alex.

On the album Microspirit, Frail Talk’s core members Alex Woodchek and Cor Wright were joined by Tobias Bank, who played drums, and Nathaniel Riley, who played bass and banjo.

“It was pretty magical to spend a full week where every morning we would just wake up and walk a few steps away and then play music all the way until it’s time to go to sleep again,” says Alex. “And then just repeat that process. I think it created this little vortex of creativity and friendship that really bleed through into the songs. I don’t think they would carry quite the same feelings if we hadn’t recorded them in that. In the way that we did, and with such good people.”

The indie band formed in Northern Colorado in 2020, creating a unique blend of folk roots, soft pop, and spacey synthetic sounds, driven by a deep commitment to human connection.

“There’s something so human about music, especially because it’s a performance art that has to be typically shared in a live space…when there are people in the same room as you and you get to share your art with them, something beyond just regular moments happens,” says Cor Wright.

The band captured the essence of their sound by recording most of the songs live, aiming to preserve the energy and intimacy of their live performances. This album represents a significant evolution from their debut, with a higher level of songwriting, collaboration and production, while still staying true to the essence of Frail Talk.

While the bittersweet experience of releasing music lingering and the shift from personal creation to public interpretation is one sort of magic the Talk is experiencing after spending so much time on the creation.

“Being so close to this sort of intangible object is like, I have such a relationship with the thing. And now I know that I have to let go because it’s not really my relationship with it anymore. It’s whatever anyone else feels about that thing,” says Cor

“I think writing is very much a part of Both mine and Cor’s daily life, we’re constantly writing and sharing with each other and then sharing with our band and letting the songs inform themselves and grow,” says Alex.

As they grow, Frail Talk remains committed to their art, driven by the love of music and its connections with others. Their journey is one of constant exploration and refinement, always aiming to capture and share the unique magic that defines their sound.

Frail Talk invites everyone to experience their daydream-like music, where the listener becomes a part of the story just as much as the music itself.
