The future is in our hands

The future is in our hands

New for the 2024-2025 winter season the Gordini Artist Series – a fusion of original style and purposeful design crafted for the playful and soulful MTN Crew. Jordan ties together the creativity of nature and provokes conversations around climate change. Gordini’s new Artists series combines functionality with a message of environmental stewardship and a call to protect our wild spaces.

“All of my work revolves around imagery that reflects our relationship with the natural world. Whether subtle or more obvious, my art is meant to spark conversations about climate change,” Jordan says. “It’s a significant step for me. I’ve always dreamed of having my work as part of an environmentally friendly clothing line. I’m excited for the audience that will see and wear my work, and I hope to do even more in the future.”

“We wanted to inspire our winter community. We believe in the power of art to create new perspectives, spark meaningful change, and build connections to place,” said Gordini Marketing Communications Manager Brett Wagenheim. “Working with Jordan Kendall Parks and Zoe Malee helps usbring a sense of joy to our snowy environments, as well as bring awareness to the fragility of its future. It was a pleasure to collaborate with these artists to bring passion, purpose and art to our product offerings.”

Jordan is process-driven, and approach their art in cycles, much like the seasons. After leaving the snowboard industry in 2010, they pursued their passion for art in college, setting the foundation for a creative career. With nearly a decade of experience in outdoor education within the nonprofit sector, they ultimately decided to focus on their art full-time, a leap they made two years ago. Their work is deeply connected to nature, drawing inspiration from the way people interact with changing environments.

“When creating this illustration, I was thinking of places heavily affected by climate change,” says Jordan. “I wanted people to not just connect with the imagery but to look deeper into it. The phrase “the future is in our hands” kept running through my head, and I even considered having that text on the glove itself.”

Their process began with a pencil sketch, followed by refining with ink and confirming the line work before moving it into Illustrator for clean-up. It was exciting to collaborate with the Gordini team, who tested how the design would emboss on leather and finalized the product.

“This project felt like working with friends. It was a true collaboration, and we were able to create something really cool together. I hope my work inspires people to connect with nature, whether that’s taking a walk in a park or visiting national parks,” says Jordan. “If that connection leads even a few people to care more about the environment and each other, then that means everything to me.”

Beyond their block printing and illustration, they’re passionate about experiential public art. They’re currently curating a project called Emergence: Art in a Free Surface, aiming to turn it into an annual collaboration with various artists. Their focus is on keeping their art practice both environmentally and physically sustainable, with the goal of continuing their creative work for life.

“Art is a unique form of language,” says Jordan. “We can use all types of advocacy to raise awareness about the state and future of our environment.”

When balancing aesthetics with functionality, they prioritize durability and gear repair, while expressing their creativity through clothing. The use of natural material in the glove perfectly complements their art, striking a balance between style and utility. For the design, they drew inspiration from the places that move them and where they might wear the glove. Each time it’s used, it protects yet reminds of the fragility of what lies beneath. Like the earth, which is in dire need of our protection.

Jordan says, “The future is in our hands.” I hope people take that message to heart and do what they can to care for the planet and each other.
