Fort Collins-based ZEMBU, an indie-pop electronic producer and musician, releases Overgrown, the second release from her first full EP recall, coming March 27th. The five-song EP is about catching up on lost time and recalling the past through organic and live instruments with synthetic sound techniques.
Overgrown is ZEMBU’s viewpoint of time and change. “There’s this park in Seattle that I love and has a lot of meaning to me. This summer I was there, quite a bit. I have memories of my childhood there,” ZEMBU says. “I can go there and feel those memories. I feel the history, what was here before me, and recognize how over time things get overgrown with new experiences, opinions, thoughts, and people.”

The DIY EP is self produced by ZEMBU with Co-production by Ben Pisano, who also plays Guitar & Drums. Violin, Viola, Cello by Joshua Hill. Mix & Master by Gus Woodrow. Album Art & Photography by Sophie Pellegrini.
ZEMBU says, “The recording of the EP was all done from home studios. Myself, Ben, and Joshua each recorded out of each of our home studios. Recording from home is part of my creative process that I really value. Being alone in my personal space has allowed me to write with more openness and vulnerability. It feels intimate and personal.”

ZEMBU has had an abundance of opportunity in her short music career. She has toured, collaborated, and recorded with many incredible musicians. “The past two years of exploring music has been such a massive learning experience and really given me a platform to believe in myself and find my voice.”
Her voice is ZEMBU, which combines ‘ethereal, warm production with layers of soulful vocals and reflective lyricism that channels listeners to a nostalgic, thoughtful place.’
“Music and songwriting are new vehicles for me. The process of songwriting has been the most healing for me. I am excited to continue on the journey and see what else is in store.”
