On July 1, 2023, Arrested Development brought their unique blend of Afrocentric hip-hop to a sold-out Red Rocks show with 311. Formed in Atlanta in 1988 by Speech and Headliner, the group offers a positive alternative to the gangsta rap of the late ’80s. Known for their uplifting messages and innovative sound, Arrested Development captivated the audience with hits like “Tennessee” and “People Everyday.” The group’s founding members, Speech and Baba Oje, met at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, where they began crafting their iconic style.
